Privacy policy

This privacy policy explains what personal information Fjell collects, why, and what you can do about it. I collect as little as I can, I don't sell it, and I only use it to run my business.

Updated

Who is responsible for your information?

Fjell is run by Graeson Bergen in Canada. I'm responsible for the personal information Fjell holds. Email graeson@fjell.ca with any question about it.

What do I collect when you visit fjell.ca?

  • The contact form. Your name, email, business, the plan you pick and your message. They're emailed to me so I can reply.
  • Analytics. Google Analytics records which pages you visit, roughly where you are, your device and browser, and how you found the site. It may use cookies. I only see totals and trends, never who you are.
  • Spam protection. Cloudflare Turnstile checks signals from your browser to tell people from bots when you send the form.
  • Server logs. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, keeps short-lived logs including your IP address to keep the site running and secure.

What do I collect when you're a client?

  • Your name, email, phone number and business details
  • The text, photos, logos and files you send for your website
  • Change requests, blog posts and messages you send through your client portal
  • Invoices and payment records
  • Logins for your domain or other accounts, if you give them to me to set up your site

What about your customers' information?

If your website has a contact form or other form, what your customers send passes through the systems I run for you and is emailed to you. I handle it only on your behalf and only to deliver it. I don't read it, keep it or use it for anything else. Your website's own privacy policy covers it.

How do I use it?

  • To reply to you and give you a price
  • To build, host and look after your website
  • To send invoices and keep the records the law requires
  • To see which pages work and fix the ones that don't
  • To keep the site and forms safe from spam and abuse

I don't sell your information, and I don't send marketing emails.

Who else handles it?

I use a few service providers to run Fjell. They only get what they need to do their job:

  • Cloudflare hosts this site, client websites and my client systems, and runs Turnstile and analytics
  • Resend delivers form emails
  • Google runs Google Analytics
  • The email and accounting tools I use to run the business

Some of these companies store or process information outside Canada, mostly in the United States. While it's there, the laws of that country apply, and its courts and government may be able to access it.

I'll also share information if the law requires it.

How long do I keep it?

  • Messages from people who don't become clients: up to two years
  • Client files and project information: while you're a client, then deleted within one year after you leave
  • Invoices and payment records: six years after the end of the tax year, as the Canada Revenue Agency requires

How do I keep it safe?

Everything is stored with providers that encrypt it, behind accounts protected by strong passwords and two-factor authentication. I'm the only person with access. If a breach puts you at real risk of significant harm, I'll tell you and the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as soon as I can.

What can you ask me to do?

You can ask me to:

  • Show you the personal information I have about you
  • Correct anything that's wrong
  • Delete it, unless I have to keep it by law
  • Stop using it for something you agreed to earlier

Email graeson@fjell.ca and I'll reply within 30 days. It's free. To stop Google Analytics on any site, you can install Google's opt-out add-on or block cookies in your browser.

If you're not happy with how I handle your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Will this policy change?

If I change how I handle your information, I'll update this page and the date at the top. If you're a client and the change matters, I'll email you. Questions? Get in touch.
